Cattle: There was a rise of 637 head to 1,722 mixed quality cattle. Young cattle dominated with double the numbers of last sale and there was an increase in cows penned. All the regular buyers attended and were active with major processors also busy with feeder orders.
Vealers showed cheaper trends of 8 to 10c/kg for the trade types, while weaners to feed showed firm. Medium and heavy steer yearlings to feed sold to keen competition with dearer trends of 8c to 12c/kg, while the light portion also showed firm to slightly dearer trends. Yearling heifers sold to cheaper trends of 6c to 8c for the light weights, with a loss of 8c to 14c for medium weights and 12c/kg for heavy weights.
Both grown steers and heifers sold to cheaper trends, but numbers of plainer quality cattle were a major factor. Light cows sold to cheaper trends of 8c to 10c to the restockers, with light trade cows down by 12c to 15c/kg. Heavy cows were down by 6c to 8c, while good D3 cows were down by 10c to 12c/kg. Bulls sold to slightly dearer trends.
