Cattle: Numbers were similar at 1,327 head and consisted of mixed quality cattle of fair to good quality. There was a limited penning of weaners, more than 1,000 head of yearling cattle, a reduced number of 130 cows however there were not enough grown steers, heifers or manufacturing steers to allow a reliable quote. Weaners and vealers sold to a cheaper trend, back 18c/kg, while the better-bred yearling steers were firm. The plainer steers and the heifer portion were 15c to 18c/kg cheaper. The heavy 3 and 4 score cows sold to a cheaper trend, back 18c/kg while bulls were firm to slightly cheaper. WRM thinks that due to the large number of weaners and yearlings available today, there may be some oat crops etc being fed down or finished for a while.
