CATTLE: There were very small numbers for the first sale of the year with just 312 head yarded. Most categories of cattle were represented, with a fairly good quality yarding of vealers and yearlings. There were a limited number of feeder buyers operating, however the market was strong. Re-stocker vealer steers sold to a top of 338c, and butcher vealers to 300c/kg. Trade yearling steers topped at 310c and trade heifers at 305c/kg. Feeder and re-stocker steers sold to 334c/kg. There was insufficient numbers of grown steers and heifers to quote, however there was several pens of cows, with medium and heavy weights selling from 213c-235c/kg. Over-all, the small number yarded made it difficult to compare with previous sales and no decent lines of stock to provide good quotes.
Sheep: Once again a small yarding, 1600 in total with trade lambs fully firm, heavy lambs fully firm and mutton down $5.
